About Shoreham-by-Sea Cricket Club

Founded in 2020, Shoreham-by-Sea Cricket Club is a huge part of the town’s sporting life.

Our aim is simple — to play good cricket, nurture local talent, and bring people together. We believe in fair play, community spirit, and enjoying the game in the best possible spirit.

Based at Buckingham Park, we’re proud of our beautiful setting, our committed volunteers, and the generations of players who’ve worn the Shoreham colours with pride.

Our History and Values

Shoreham-by-Sea Cricket Club has a legacy spanning over two centuries, with the earliest records of cricket in Shoreham tracing back to the early 1800s.

The club’s roots lie at Oxen Fields (Shoreham-by-Sea) where they played until the late 1920s when urban development led to a relocation. In 1930, Buckingham Park became the new home, with two cricket pitches which later expanded to three to cater to the growing youth section.

Throughout the 1950s to the 1970s, the club flourished, boasting three league teams on Saturdays, two friendly teams on Sundays, and an evening league team. Players changed in the car park and enjoyed cricket teas in the park café.
The club’s golden era continued into the 1980s and 1990s with league and cup triumphs. However, the early 2000s saw its player numbers decline due to changing player work patterns and younger members pursuing university education.

The club was then reborn in 2020 with renewed vigour. Today, Shoreham-by-Sea Cricket Club fields three mid-week teams in the Sussex Slam T20 competitions, a Sunday XI, and boasts an extensive colts section and touring side.

The club’s resurgence has been remarkable with current membership numbers in excess of 60. The club has won the West Sussex Slam T20 title (2022) and embarked on their first tour of the New Forest.

With an inclusive ethos, the club welcomes players of all levels, from newcomers to seasoned professionals, fostering a safe, social, and enjoyable environment. Shoreham-by-Sea Cricket Club isn’t just a club; it’s a community united by the love of cricket.

The club is now working hard to develop the junior section, engaging both children and parents in the club’s activities. We’re excited to build a vibrant community where young players can learn and grow in the sport.
